VERSE:
Jonah 3:1–Then the word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time.
TRUTH:
This may seem an odd verse to choose out of all the great verses in this chapter, but today I was struck with the idea of second changes. Jonah had been given a second chance. He had rebelled against God. He’d gone through the belly of the fish and been judged. He’d repented and been saved. Now, he was at his second chance. God brought him right back to the place where things had gone sideways for him. God still had a message for the people of Ninevah and He still wanted Jonah to deliver it. So, God spoke to Jonah again. As we repent and ask God’s forgiveness, we will find that God will often bring us right back to the place where we turned away from Him and give us the same opportunity again. Will we be obedient a second time? Or, will we run again. Thank God for His second chances, but we must be ready to make good on our repentance when we are faced with them.
RESPONSE:
Father, I am so thankful for Your second chances. It is hard to be faced with the same decision a second time, but I pray that You will give me Your grace and Your faith to be obedient to You this time around for I truly desire to follow You. Thank You for Your grace and Your mercy.
