Christian Devotional – June 24, 2019

The next step. Elijah had been obedient and God had provided. However, now there is a new command from God and Elijah has a choice. Read 1 Kings 17:8-9.

Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying, “Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and stay there; behold, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you.”

Obeying God is truly a command, but it is an ongoing thing. We must continue to obey him and not get stuck in the prior command. What if Elijah had said, “No, God, you told me to go to the stream and I’m staying there.” He would have starved by mot following God’s command.

Are we stuck only on our past obedience? Or, are we looking forward to the next command and opportunity to be obedient?
