The Messenger, Day 5

Purity equals offering. Read Malachi 3:1-5.
If God was upset about the people bringing unclean and unworthy sacrifices to the temple, he was just as upset when the people themselves weren’t doing what they needed to do in order to be ready to offer the sacrifices. They weren’t preparing themselves. They weren’t cleansing themselves. They were showing up and just offering the sacrifices as if they were common daily duties. God was not pleased.
The messenger is delivering the message that they need to be cleansed. The people themselves need to be refined like silver. This messenger is going to be able to sit and refine the people. As we understand the refinement process of silver, we know that it is heated up to very high temperatures multiple times. Each time the impurities float to the top and are skimmed off. When liquid silver is pure, the refiner can look into the pot and see a perfect reflection of himself. There are no more impurities that would mar the surface.
God is sitting as the refiner and he is moving in our lives in order to refine us and remover everything that doesn’t look like a reflection of Christ. Are we allowing God to do this in our lives, or are we fighting against him? God desires those who can bring offerings in righteousness, but first he needs to work in us to reflect him.
