The Reluctant Follower, Day 15

Not sharing. Read Jonah 4:2-3.
You’ve seen the kids that get the nice toy and then absolutely refuse to share with anybody else. They have no problem showing the toy to others and bragging that they have it, but they have no interest in sharing it. Nobody else gets the opportunity to enjoy it. That’s what Jonah reminds me of in our passage today.
We saw yesterday that Jonah was really angry that God chose to forgive and show mercy to the people of Ninevah. Today, Jonah prays his prayer to God explaining just exactly why he is angry. Jonah knows God. Jonah is an Israelite and they have a special relationship with God. But, Jonah doesn’t want to share. Jonah wants God and his blessings to be for Israelites only. The Ninevites were a different people group, and they were not Israelites.
Jonah knew God. He explains and describes the character of who God is in these verses and says that is the exact reason why he didn’t want to go to Ninevah. He knew the character of God and didn’t want to share God with anybody else. He feels so strongly about this that he wished he were no longer alive.
Do we know the character of who God is? If we know that, are we excited to share that with others? God wants the entire world to know him and it is our responsibility and our joy to be able to share God with others.
