Christian Devotional – November 10, 2015

Read James chapter 3

VERSE:

James 3:15-16–Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual demonic. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.

TRUTH:

So many things can be corrupted by envy and selfish ambition. That question for power that feeds our pride will drive people to do things that originally would never have considered doing. As we are going through our day, what motivates us? Are we seeking to be better than someone or something? Do we want to show someone up? These motivations, which are often praised as wisdom in the world today, are the key drivers of disorder and evil practices. If we are so driven by selfish ambition, then we will throw aside any practice or teaching that doesn’t help us to gain more or do more. What motivates us each day and what does that motivation lead to?

RESPONSE:

Father, I praise You and thank You. I know that You are all that I need. Give me Godly motivation to do the things I need to do and not get stuck on the envy and selfish reasons that I am tempted with. Keep me from getting caught up in the disorder and evil practice that You are doing. I love You and want to display You to the world, not just with my actions but with the motives behind my actions as well.
