Judgment and Restoration, Day 16

Both judgment and restoration. Read Micah 7:8-13.

When you talk to people about God and ask them to describe who he is, many people will talk about how loving he is. Other people will explain how mean they believe he is. Some people see God only as judgment. Other people see God only as the loving restorer. In truth, God is both.

God is the one who judges us. God is the one who sets the standard by which we are to measure up, and when we don’t, because we can’t, God is the one that holds us accountable to that standard. But God is also the loving, merciful God who seeks to find a way to bring us to restoration, if we are willing to submit to him.

While these two ideas may seem completely separate, they are, in fact, flip sides of the same coin. God is both of them, fully and completely, at the same time. And while he is judging us for our shortcomings and our sin, he is simultaneously offering us restoration through his mercy and grace.

Will we choose to accept God’s mercy and grace? The judgment will come. Experiencing God’s mercy and grace is based upon our choice. Will we choose to accept Christ as our Savior so that we can experience his grace?
