Life and Love, Day 1

What are we seeking in life? Read 1 John 1:1-4.

First John is a book that is written by the apostle, John. He went through an incredible transformation in his life. He began following Jesus being described as a “son of thunder,” and ended his life describing himself as “the one Jesus loved.” John became very familiar with the love of God. John knew that seeing God as love and understanding the love of God truly led to life.

As we study through this book, we see here at the very beginning, eternal life is based on God alone. Eternal life is not defined as heaven or some life after death. Eternal life begins now because when we know Jesus Christ, he is the life. Knowing Jesus Christ is knowing and understanding love. We cannot separate life from love. If we are experiencing Christ and living the life that he desires for us, it will be a life characterized by God’s love for everyone.

My challenge to you is to examine your life through the lens of Jesus Christ. Does your life characterize Jesus Christ and all of the qualities that go with it, including his love? Jesus is the life. He appeared to us, and now we are to be that life in the world as we go through every day.
