No Distractions, Day 18

Know the difference. Read Galatians 5:16-26.

In these verses, we see two lists. We have the famous list of the fruit of the Spirit, but we also have the list of all the fruit of the flesh. Paul wants us to understand that we will be living according to one or the other list. If we are following Christ and allowing his Spirit to live in and through us, we will be producing the fruit of the Spirit.

However, if we are not surrendered to Christ and not allowing him to live through us, then we will naturally produce the fruit of the flesh. We have to make sure that we are choosing the Spirit. This verse is very clear that what the flesh desires is against the Spirit and the Spirit has nothing to do with the flesh. Because we are fallen, sinful humans, our natural inclination is going to be to produce the fruit of the flesh. If we are left to our own desires and able to do whatever we want, we will naturally create all of those fleshly things in that list.

It is only because of the grace of God and through his Spirit that that we are able to live out the fruit of the Spirit. But, we have to make that choice and allow the Spirit to live in us. Does that describe our life today? Are we focused on the fruit of the Spirit and living those out today?
