Devotional – April 29, 2012
VERSE:
1 Kings 21:4–So Ahab came into his house sullen and vexed because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him; for he said, “I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers.” And he lay down on his bed and turned away his face and ate no food.
TRUTH:
Ahab wanted something that belonged to someone else. When that person said no to Ahab’s offer to buy it, Ahab couldn’t let go of his desire. He got depressed and so focused on having that one thing that he could think of nothing else. He couldn’t enjoy or be thankful for any of the fine things that he already had. When we get told no by others, or even by God, do we sulk and mope, or be grateful for the things that we have.
RESPONSE:
Lord, I want only what You want me to have. Help me not to get so focused on the things I don’t have that I can’t enjoy or be grateful for the things you have already blessed me with.
