Leading Through Challenging Circumstances, Day 19

The mystery man. Read Daniel 3:24-25.
In the verse before, we see that the king jumped up in amazement. I bet he did. He knew exactly what he expected to see when he looked into the furnace. And what he saw was completely unexpected. He knew he threw three men in the furnace. And yet all three of them plus one extra were walking around in the furnace as though nothing was wrong.
I often wonder why the three men were walking around in there instead of walking back out, but they waited until the king called them out. Also, we know that the king saw the fourth man walking around. We don’t really ever know if Shradach, Meshach, and Abednego saw their protector walking round with them in the fire.
When God works to show his glory to people, it is unmistakable and often completely surprising. It is not what people expect. It defies their understanding. God wanted to ensure that the king could have no doubt that he was the one true God and he was in charge of this situation, not the king. God’s very presence in that fire was to show the king the totality of his control.
Are we standing up in integrity and allowing God to move and work in the way that he sees fit? He is the one who needs to demonstrate his glory to the world.
