ADHD Gospel, Day 1

Planned. Read Mark 1:1-8.
We are going to transition to spending time in the Gospel of Mark. This gospel is a glimpse into the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We see in its pages the story of Jesus Christ. Mark is a little more unique of the Gospels in that scholars agree that it was the first gospel written chronologically, and it also has the shortest number of chapters. I had a person describe the book of Mark to me one time as the ADHD version of the Gospel. When I asked what they meant, they indicated that the events in Mark are recorded in quick succession, back to back to back, and there’s never very many scriptures talking about one particular event. It’s as if Mark wanted to record as many things as he could about Jesus and give the summary version, or a quick hits list of all deeds of Jesus.
When we think about reading this book, we’re going to be looking for the essence of the Gospel message throughout everything that is recorded. In these first 8 verses, we understand that even though this book is written as a quick hits list of the miraculous life of Jesus Christ, that doesn’t mean that it was without planning. So many planning pieces went into everything that God did and we see it clearly here.
As we are reading through these first 8 verses, we understand that God had planned and had prophesied about all of these events way back in the Old Testament. When we realize the depth to which God planned, we can see just how important we are to God. We see just how important his plan is. God was going to see his plan come about. Even though the events in this book are recorded in a summary fashion, that should not diminish the incredible meaning and purpose behind each and every one of these events.
This entire story was planned, and we can see just how diligent and focused God was to bring about his plan. For everything in our life, there is a plan. God is working to bring about his glory through us. Are we seeking to fall in line and be part of God’s plan in our life today?
