Begin Again, Day 25

Still work to be done. Read Joshua chapter 13.

A couple of days ago, we saw the verse that talked about how a long time had passed while they were taking over the promised land. Now we get a sense of just how long the time has been. This military campaign and takeover of the land has taken Joshua’s entire lifetime. The people have been working, moving, and being obedient and following through for the whole of Joshua’s life.

Our obedience is to span our lifetime. It’s not to be something that’s just in the good moments or in the easy moments. It’s not something we’re supposed to get excited about a few times a year. Joshua and the people of Israel had to be obedient for their lifetime, and we are called to do the same. There was still work to be done.

Joshua was going to receive additional instructions from the Lord on how he was going to divide the land so that the work could continue even once Joshua was gone. The work that God has us doing never ends with us, and we should never think it will. The work that God has for us is something he gives for our lifetime, and we are to set it up so that it can continue even beyond our lifetime.

God was worthy of praise before we were born. He is worthy of praise now. And, he will continue to be worthy of praise long after we have gone to be with him. Do we live our lives, understanding that the work we do is to help set up and leave a legacy of faith for the next generation to follow? How can we encourage and inspire the next generation of Jesus followers today?
