Christian Devotional – August 29, 2016

Read 2 Kings chapter 10

VERSE:

2 Kings 10:31–Yet Jehu was not careful to keep the law of the Lord, the God of Israel, with all his hear, He did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam, which he had caused Israel to commit.

TRUTH:

God used Jehu in a mighty way to rid Israel of much of the evil practices and idolatry that was running rampant in Israel in that time. Jehu took a great stand. However, when the dust settled and Jehu was firmly established as king, he didn’t continue down that path, but instead followed evil practices of his own. We have to make a choice to follow God, it doesn’t come naturally and it’s not going to be our first thought. When we are looking to follow God, we must be careful to examine each decision and each thought and ensure that it is lining up with God, or else we find ourselves slipping back into old, bad habits. Are we being careful today? Where are we most prone to slipping? Surrender that to God today!

RESPONSE:

Father, I have my areas that I am very good at trying to take back and do my own way. I know You’re better at it. I know that I’m happier when You are doing it, but that doesn’t change my natural tendency to take it back. Forgive me. Keep me out of my own way as I seek to follow You in everything that You would have me do. I know that Your will is so much better than anything I could come up with.
