The Voice of the Prophet, Day 36

The rebellion. Read Isaiah chapter 36.
The invasion is coming. The people of Judah have rebelled against the Assyrians and not paid the tribute they had agreed to. As a result, the Assyrians are coming to threaten and conquer them. As a part of the threats, the leader makes fun of the people of Jerusalem asking why they aren’t just giving up and giving in to the Assyrians.
What could they possibly be hoping in that would keep them from just surrendering to Assyria? He makes up several things and asks what possibly they could potentially be depending upon that would cause them to rebel against Assyria. This is a great question because when it comes to who we depend upon, we should never depend on anyone except God.
God is to be the foundation of all everything we do. And for the people of Jerusalem, they were depending on God. Now the leader of Assyria makes fun of God and makes fun of them for depending on God. We’ll learn how this whole scenario plays out over the coming days, but sometimes we have to stand firm in our beliefs in God, even when others don’t believe us or are making fun of us.
God is worthy of all things and because of who he is and what he’s done, we can stand firm in him and rest assured that he is the one who will defend us and protect us. Are we rebelling against anyone who is in the way of us standing firm in Christ.
