Observations from the Doctor, Day 3

Jesus as a Child. Read Luke chapter 2.

We only have a few stories about Jesus as a child. Luke and Matthew are the only gospels that share the story of Jesus’s birth and Luke is the only one that shares more information about the time Jesus spent as a child. Jesus was amazing, even as a child. People were astounded by him and his answers. He was amazing his parents. Jesus went through every single experience that every other child goes through. He learned how to walk. He probably went to school. He went with his parents to the temple every single year. However, when he was 12 years old, he ended us staying back and questioning the leaders in the temple. They were amazed at his learnings and his answers to the questions they were presenting to him.

Why did Luke feel the need to share these stories? Luke wants us to understand how fully human Jesus was. Even though it was a supernatural conception, Jesus was born, just like the rest of us have been born. Jesus had a childhood and grew up, just like we did. Understanding the humanity of Jesus is crucial to realizing why all the miracles were so amazing. Jesus was just like us, except that he wasn’t like us at all. Jesus Christ was fully human, and in order to fulfill God’s purpose, he had to be tempted in every way that we are tempted, which meant living a life like we live. And, because he was fully God, he was able to overcome every temptation that he faced and live the perfect life that God demands.

Jesus is amazing in every way. He had to come as a baby and live life just like we do, so that His sacrifice on our behalf covers every area of our life. As a child, everyone who heard Him was amazed and even now, everyone continues to be amazed with Jesus Christ.
