Observations from the Doctor, Day 4

Origin story. Read Luke chapter 3.

Whether it’s books or movies, every good character has an origin story. We need to understand who this person is, what they’ve gone through in their life, how that has forged them into the individual that we see. Luke has been building Jesus’s origin story for us.

Last chapter, we saw Jesus’s birth and early childhood information. In chapter 3 of Luke today, we see the cultural climate in which Jesus is coming into. There is unrest and there is dissension. John the Baptist, whose birth we read about in chapter one of Luke, has started preaching. He has built a following, along with a lot of people who don’t like him, including the leadership of the country. Jesus comes out and is baptized by John, and then God performs a miracle and announces to the world that Jesus is God’s Son.

While being God’s son, Luke still goes through and lists the genealogy of Jesus and the human parentage that he came through. Like yesterday, we see that Jesus is both God and Man. As we see all these names, we understand that God had been building for this through all of history. Jesus is God’s son and Jesus is the fulfillment of the prophecy that God made to Adam and Eve in the garden after they sinned. That is his origin story. Jesus is both God and Man.
