The Essential 100, Day 25 Has God ever asked you to do something weird? Something that seems completely off the wall or like it would never work? God did exactly that with Joshua and the Israelites when they went to defeat the city of Jericho. Read Joshua 5:13-6:27. The whole plan seemed bizarre from the start. I’m Joshua had plenty of moments of doubt as he heard the angel of the Lord explain it. It seemed like it would never work. It seemed crazy. Yet Joshua followed the plan exactly and God did exactly what he said. When God asks us to do the strange and unusual, and we do,…

The Essential 100, Day 24 Evidence and examples. We talk about our focus on God and our dedication to him, but what evidence are we leaving and what examples exist to share with the next generation? Read Joshua 3-4. The Lord did another amazing miracle in their midst. Most of these people had not been alive when God brought them through the Red Sea, so now he repeated this miracle for them so they could experience it for themselves. They were then to take stones and set them up as a reminder to themselves and to the next generations of how God had worked and moved in their lives in…

The Essential 100, Day 23 God goes with us! Wherever we go, he goes with us. We can know that we are never alone. Read Joshua 1. Moses is gone and now Joshua is in charge. He has an amazing and daunting task ahead of him. However, God reminds him to be strong, be courageous and remember that he is not alone. God has work for each of us to do. God has a plan for us and we need to remember God’s command to be strong and courageous and that we are not alone!

The Essential 100, Day 22 Consistency. When we make a commitment to follow God, how long is it good for? Do we show commitment in our decision? Read Exodus 32-34. The people of Israel didn’t. They quickly turned to other idols and gods to fulfill them. When we nake a decision, how steadfast are we in that decision? Are we focused on living out our decisions? We are only 22 days into the New Year, yet, there are multiple resolutions that have already been discarded. Are we following through on our commitment to God? Do we need to repent and get back on track?

The Essential 100, Day 21 God gave us rules. The commandments were given to the people as a way to help them see their need for God. God knew they would never be able to keep all of them, but man needed to be able to understand his own sinfulness. Read Exodus 19:1 – 20:21. As God gathered the people and gave them his law, he did so to help them truly understand his holiness. God is perfect and we are not. God expects perfection and we can’t give it. We need a Savior. The 10 commandments are important to understand, but God’s holiness and our sinfulness is the key…

The Essential 100, Day 20 God’s got this. As we look at our world and all the chaos that is going on, we can rest in the knowledge that God is in control. Read Exodus 13:17-14:31. The Israelites have left Egypt but now the Egyptians have realized they didn’t want them to go. As the Egyptians are chasing them, the isrealites start to panic and wonder what are they going to do and why have they been put in this situation. They see no way out. However, God was not surprised by this situation, God had a plan, and God used his plan to glorify himself. When we look at…

The Essential 100, Day 19 God’s judgment and God’s mercy can often be seen in the same event. The Passover is one example of that. Read Exodus 12:1-42. God poured out his judgment on the Egyptians. They felt and experienced God moving in their life and became of their disobedience, his moving brought judgment. The people of Israel also experienced God moving and working, but they were obedient, so they experienced mercy. God is always moving and working in the world. How we experience his moving has more to do with our relationship with him than what he is doing. Do we see God’s movements as a judgment, then we…

The Essential 100, Day 18 God brings judgment. As we continue to learn more about God, we see that God brings judgment to those who do not follow him. He doesn’t just judge people, but he judges nations as well. Read Exodus 6:28-11:10. God judges the nation of Egypt for their sin and harsh treatment of the Israelites. God sees their disobedience and He gives them multiple opportunities to repent, but Pharaoh won’t. As we look at our nations, we must remember that God will judge it as well. Are we a nation and a people who seek after Him? Do we recognize our sins and repent, or just continue…

The Essential 100, Day 17 Moses was called by God. But, God didn’t call him until he got his attention. Moses had to decide to turn and look. Read Exodus 3 – 4:17. God did something incredible to get Moses’s attention. A bush burned, but wasn’t burned up. But, God didn’t call to him until Moses made the decision to go and look. Only then did God call to him. Many of us want God to speak to us and to give us direction and purpose in our lives. But, God isn’t going to call us unless we are paying attention to him. When was the last time we actually…

The Essential 100, Day 16 God is concerned. So many times we look at our life and we think that it is just us going through difficult situations and no one cares. God cares and God is concerned about us. Read Exodus 1-2. All through these two chapters we see the care and concern of God. He cared for Joseph. He cared for the midwives. He cared for the Hebrews. He cared for Moses. Moses’s life was completely under the care of God, just like we are. When we look at our lives, do we see the care and concern of God? We may not see it, but that doesn’t…
