VERSE: Psalm 110:2–The Lord will stretch forth Your strong scepter from Zion, “Rule in the midst of Your enemies.” TRUTH: Jesus Christ is the Messiah. He quoted from this psalm as He explained Himself to others. He will stretch forth His scepter and will rule the entire earth, regardless of who believes in Him or not. The truth of Jesus’ reign is not affected by our opinion of it.RESPONSE: Lord, You are indeed over all and You will rule over all. I thank You for all that You are and I praise You for Your truth.

    Devotional – November 12, 2011

VERSE: Psalm 109:4–In return for my love they act as my accusers; But I am in prayer. TRUTH: We have all been let down or betrayed by people. David was no exception. How did he respond? He brought it to the Lord in prayer? He didn’t hold back his feelings or frustration from God, but he didn’t act on them. He allowed God to handle the situation. Do we express our frustration to God, or do we share with everyone around us? Do we allow God to deal with the situation? RESPONSE: Lord, I will bring my frustration and feelings of betrayal to You. You know how I feel, and…

VERSE: Psalm 108:12–Oh give us help against the adversary, for deliverance by man is in vain. TRUTH: As David sang through this psalm, he knew that no matter the battle he faced, God is the one who brings victory. What battles are we going through? Only God brings the victory. Having friends stand by us and help us is great and certainly needed, but we must trust and wait on God to bring the victory. RESPONSE: Lord, we praise You for all that You are. You are victorious. You are above all and through You we find help and deliverance in all things.

VERSE: Psalm 107:9–For He has satisfied the thirsty soul, and the hungry soul He has filled with what is good. TRUTH: God is the fulfillment of all our needs and desires. Do we yearn for Him like our body craves food and drink? He is the only thing that satisfies our every longing and desire. RESPONSE: Father, I long for You. I need You and I desire You more than food or drink, or even air. I know only You can satisfy the longings of my heart. I will cling to You and only You for everything.

VERSE: Colossians: 4:17–Say to Archippus, “Take heed to the ministry which you have received in the Lord, that you may fulfill it.” TRUTH: We all need encouragement to follow through with the work that God called us to. Paul is reminding the believers that they need to lift up and encourage this fellow believer in the ministry he is called to so that he’ll be faithful to complete it. Who do we need to encourage to be faithful to follow through with God’s plan for their life? RESPONSE: Lord, help me to first be faithful to follow through with the ministry you’ve given me, and second to encourage others to…

VERSE: Colossians 3:13–bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. TRUTH: God has offered forgiveness to us through His Son Jesus Christ. Because He has forgiven us, we can forgive others. While this is true about non-Christians, this verse is referring to our relationship with other believers. This verse seems to imply that we will have an opportunity to practice this. We will have other Christians in our life who hurt us, whether intentionally or unintentionally. Do we have a fellow Christian we need to forgive? RESPONSE: Lord, through Your sacrifice, those of us…

VERSE: Colossians 2:6–Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus as Lord, so walk in Him. TRUTH: The daily Christian life is described in this verse. Sure, we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, but then each day we are to surrender our will and submit ourselves to His lordship. We are to walk in Him. RESPONSE: Lord, I praise You for Your saving grace. I thank You for providing the means to live daily in You. Help me to simply walk in You today.

VERSE: Colossians 1:9–For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding. TRUTH: Every one of us face difficulties. When we hear of the struggles of others, do we pray for them? Not just a token, “Please God help them,” but praying without ceasing. Do we lift them up to the throne begging God to give people the knowledge of His will, wisdom, and understanding? The most we can do for people is pray for them. RESPONSE: Lord, I pray for…

VERSE: Psalm 106:8–Nevertheless He saved them for the sake of His name, that He might make His power known. TRUTH: As this psalm recounts the entire history of the Israelite people, it tells of all that God has done for them. Why did God save them? For the sake of His own name. That is why He saves us. That is why He does the things that He does, for the sake of His name. Is everything that we do done for the purpose of pointing people to Christ and glorifying His name?RESPONSE: Lord, I thank You for all that You have done for me and I praise You for all…

VERSE: Psalm 105:3–Glory in His holy name, let the heart of those who seek the Lord be glad. TRUTH: The Lord is holy and His name is holy. Seeking Him we find joy. Are we seeking after the holy name of Jesus? Is our heart glad? If not, we need to reevaluate what we are seeking after. RESPONSE: Lord, I want You and You only. I pray that You will help me seek You at all times in my life.
